Demi Lovato reflects on NYE rehab past: 'I am so much happier now'
The 'Skyscraper' singer checked into rehab in October 2010 for an eating disorder, ultimately being released months later in February 2011.
Lovato reflected on that troubled period in her life on Monday (December 31) prior to ringing in 2013 with her family and friends.
She wrote: "Two years ago, I watched the ball drop on TV in rehab and cried my eyes out. Tonight I'm on the beach with my closest, most loyal friends... sipping coffee and sharing how beautiful life is and how far we've come. Recovery is a beautiful thing friends. Life is good, God is great!"
The star went on to urge her fans to stay safe as they celebrated the New Year's holiday last night and today (January 1).
"Everyone please be careful and smart tonight. [New Year's] is about celebrating the past year and the year to come," she added.
"Set goals and dream big #2013... By the way - just r! eminding teens out there that you don't have to drink on [New Year's] to have fun. Be the difference."
Lovato has experienced a great deal of success since leaving rehab in February 2011.
Her confessional hit 'Skyscraper' reached the top ten of the US Billboard singles chart, and she later joined The X Factor USA as a judge alongside Britney Spears.
Simon Cowell recently commented that he's not sure if Lovato will return for The X Factor's third season, but stressed that he liked working with her.
