Demi Lovato: Being a celebrity can be dangerous

By Robyn Ross,

Demi Lovato says that being a celebrity can be dangerous-- and she knows first-hand.

"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. I thought I was having fun [but] being a celebrity can be dangerous," Lovato says in an interview with Britain's Fabulous magazine. "Nobody says 'no'. That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

Lovato, 19, completed a three-month treatment program last January, revealing that she was overcoming an eating disorder and bipolar disorder. The former Sonny with a Chance star would also cut herself.

"It started with my wrists. People saw that, so I cut in places they couldn't see," she says. Lovato has since covered her scars with tattoos that read "Stay" and "Strong."

Although Lovato says she's made progress, she still struggles with being back in front of the camera.

"After so long being thin, it was terrifying being heavier," she says. "Knowing I have bad angles and the photographer can take a bad shot makes me insecure. But I'm a lot better than I used to be. In my first shoot after having treatment, I went into meltdown and ran away from the studio. So I've made progress."
