Demi Lovato: Nightclub Promoters Gave Me Free Drugs and Alcohol

Before she entered rehab in late 2010, Demi Lovato was surrounded by temptation.

In an interview with the U.K.'s Fabulous magazine, the 19-year-old singer opens up about how nightclub promoters encouraged her bad habits to capitalize on her fame.

"Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass," Lovato says. "I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun."

Lovato cautions that "being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no.' That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

The "Give Your Heart a Break" singer, who also sought treatment for an eating disorder and depression, is less candid when asked if she's ever tried cocaine.

"It's something I don't really want to talk about," Lovato tells the magazine. "What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and sud! denly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay up."

Though she's been out of rehab more than a year, Lovato admits she sometimes struggles with her past demons. "I'm not saying I'm perfect, or fixed, but I am learning to love and accept myself," she explains. "My outlook is more positive and I am happy."
