Tuned In: Demi Lovato Says She Used to Get Free Drugs in Clubs

(PacificCoastNews)

Despite a policy of openness and honesty about the months she spent in rehab, Demi Lovato usually refuses to directly address rumors that she'd been abusing hard drugs before she checked into treatment in November 2010. But now the former Disney star has shed light on the sadder side of life in the spotlight, making it clear how easy it was for her to score illegal narcotics as a teen... for free.

Also in music news, Nicki Minaj has hinted that she wants to retire, Taylor Swift could play Joni Mitchell on the big screen, The Bee Gees' Robin Gibb is out of a coma, Fiona Apple has released a new song for the first time in seven years, and more.

In a new interview with the UK's Fabulous magazine (via Fox News), former Sonny With a Chance star Demi Lovato confirmed what many expect of Hollywood: The place is crawling with free drugs.

Lovato, 19, explained, "Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass.

"I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no.' That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

Lovato wouldn't comment specifically on which drugs she did use. "What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up.'"

Demi is! , of cou se, not the first teen idol to be derailed by drug use. She may be the first to forge a year-long PR push on her recovery, however.

Nicki Minaj has reached that weird point in her career where she starts referring to herself in the third person, apparently.

In a recent radio interview, Minaj referred to herself as "the kid" and hinted that maybe she'll just stop making music altogether: People arent even giving the kid props for taking it back to the essence... This is my fourth mixtape, really. The kid did like that so she could feed her fans. But really, now the kid is thinking maybe she should leave the game.

Don't worry, Barbz. This is the kind of thing theater geeks say when they want you to beg them to do something. It's classic melodrama taking its course.

Taylor Swift (Getty) The world just barely missed out on witnessing Taylor Swift strain her vocal muscle in the film adaptation of Les Miserables, but now she's reportedly in talks to take on a very different major film role. Variety reports that Swift could star as folk hero Joni Mitchell in an adaptation of Girls Like Us, a biography about Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King. It would be Swift's first dramatic role. She does have the bangs to pull it off.

Just last week it seemed the world was preparing its goodbyes for the Bee Gees' Robin Gibb, who was in a coma follo! wing adv anced treatment for colorectal cancer. He has since emerged from that coma, and is now lucid, speaking, and breathing on his own. Make all your "Stayin' Alive" jokes NOW.

Dr. Dre says sorry, but that Tupac "hologram" is a one two-time deal thing only. No world tours for Tupac's ghost yet. Michael Jackson, on the other hand...

Sinead O'Connor is not well enough to tour. The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer, who suffers from mental illness, wrote on her official site and her official Facebook page:

"As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release. So very stupidly I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am."

O'Connor hopes to have recovered in time for a scheduled appearance at a Curtis Mayfield tribute in July.

Fiona Apple has released a new song, "Every Single Night."
