After what feels like YEARS of speculation as to who would take Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzingers place on The X Factor, its finally official. Pop singer Demi Lovato will join Britney Spears, L.A. Reid, and Simon Cowell on the judges panel in the next season of the FOX reality show. Britney, we get, but what was the motivation behind Lovato? Does Simon Cowell have a thing for Disney stars turned pop singers with troubled pasts?
In a word: Possibly. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Cowell and company are banking on Demi Lovato to help the show reach a younger demographic. Just how much thei! r bankin g has yet to be revealed, but were pretty sure its not going to come close to Brits reported $15 million payday.
With the new panel practically set, sources close to the show say that above all else, theyre hoping to differentiate themselves from the other reality singing competitions by offering a real point of view, which producers admit was lacking in Season 1.
Neither FOX nor Lovatos reps would confirm or deny that a deal had been reached, or that Lovato is even in the running to fill the fourth chair, but with the FOX upfront event scheduled for May 14th, dont be surprised if a major announcement is made at that time.
Besides, with Season 2 talent auditions slated for the end of the month, theyre going to have to say something soon.
