Earlier this week, Extra confirmed that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will join Simon Cowell as judges on the second season of The X Factor, premiering this fall on Fox. Up until this week, rumored judges included LeAnn Rimes, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, Gwen Stefani and Janet Jackson. Considering first seasons judges Paula Abdul and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger were fired by Cowell himself, we cant say were too enthused about what this could mean for the future of Britneys career.
Does becoming a judge on a reality talent show mark you has a has-been? Lets hope not, for Britneys sake. At the ripe age of 30, shes got plenty of good years left in her (just ask Madonna) and is still worth plenty in pop star gold. Britney is reportedly making a cool $15 million for a single season. Brit seems pretty excited about the announcement she even tweeted a pic of all four judges saying, Im so excited about this whole experience Im ready to find a true star.
While 2011 was a particularly fruitful year for Brit (with the success of Femme Fatale, making her the second artist in history to have two consecutive singles debut at No. 1), this whole X Factor thing is making me nervous! She better get back into the studio after this x-capade (I know, sorry).
But all things Britney aside, judging X Factor could be just what dear Demi Lovato needs. At 19, shes experienced more emotional suffering than most do in a lifetime. Since her childhood, shes been a victim of bullying, eating disorders, an estranged father, bi-polar disorder, a Jonas brother break up and rehab for self-injury. The past two years, especially, have not been easy ! and 2012 sounds like a good time to pick up and get back in a positive spotlight.
Lovato must agree. In March, she released a MTV documentary called Stay Strong, where she opened up about her time in rehab. The day of the big X Factor announcement she was quoted saying, Im excited to represent my generation, and Im ready to find the winner! All good vibes coming from a girl whos going to be making 1/15 of Britneys reported salary. This experience will be good for her well-being, dont you think?
