Demi Lovato: I was a clingy girlfriend

Demi Lovato says her relationships were 'unhealthy'

US X Factor judge Demi Lovato says her previous relationships were unhealthy and she was a 'clingy' girlfriend.

'It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family,' she says.

'I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone.

'I'm in a place where I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I'm in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous.'

Demi, 20, was linked to One Direction star Niall Horan last year though she denied that they were an item.

'I'm in a place right now where I really need to focus on myself,' she said at the time.

Demi has battled bulimia and self-harm in the past and had a stint in rehab in 2010 but says she has put the worst of it behind her.

'More has come out of the past year than in my entire career so far,' she tells Cosmo on Campus, 'and I truly believe it was because I was taking care of myself and not focusing on guys.'
