Demi Lovato: Acting is scary
No story type selected- - Demi Lovato is concentrating on her singing career because being on camera makes her so nervous.
The American singer-and-actress went to rehab in 2010 to be treated for emotional and physical issues. She has battled an eating disorder which shes been open about in the hope it will help other young people.
Demi found fame on Disney show Sonny with a Chance, which she left last year. At the moment she feels more comfortable working on music.
Right now, I dont need to be put in front of a camera that adds ten pounds and makes you feel more self-conscious about your body image, she told the March edition of UK Glamour magazine. Being on camera makes me nervous. It takes a level of confidence and security, which Im still working on. When Im ready, Ill find the right role and get back into it, but for now, Im being cautious and trying to make smart decisions for me and my recovery.
Demis eating disorder made her a very manipulative person by her own admission. She would lie about whether shed eaten or was hungry in order to cut calories.
In the summer of 2010 she toured as a supporting act for the Jonas Brothers, which is when she hit rock bottom. There were rumours about her bad behaviour and she also found being away from friends and family hard.
Things culminated with her punching a backing dancer, after which she sought help.
In the months leading up to October 2010 I was in a very unhealthy place. I needed help but I wasnt going to listen to anyone, until they sat me down and basically staged an intervention, Demi admitted. They said, You need to get help voluntarily, or were going to have you admitted. So I had no choice. I had to get treatment.
Her problems started at school, where she was bullied about her weight. Eventually she was taught at home, but she still felt insecure.
Through it all Demi knew she wanted to sing, but even after finding fame with Disney in 2007 she could! nt shake the feeling that she wasnt good enough.
I dont know if I wanted to be a star, but I definitely wanted to be a singer. Being famous came second, she said.
[The eating disorder] never really went away, exactly. Id try, but the impulses would come back. You feel like youre on a downward spiral, but you have to fight through it.
