OFFSTAGE: Demi Lovato's First Country Song
If you're the daughter of a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, like Demi Lovato is, I think you kind of owe it to the world to be a country songwriter. Maybe it's just a Texas thing. Maybe not. But either way, the teen actress and pop singer is giving it a go.
Over the New Year's holiday, she tweeted, "Wrote my first country song today." So is this her attempt at being Sonny With a Chance of Country? Lovato is no longer a part of that Disney sitcom (now renamed So Random!) that made her a household named with kids and tweens, and she is focusing on her music instead.
Lovato tweets about music often, sometimes randomly saying things like "What Hurts the Most - Rascal Flatts" or "Kenny Chesney - The Good Stuff." She recently put this one out there: "Crazy Girl - Eli Young Band." That is a phenomenal song by the phenomenal Texas-based band. So maybe her Texas roots are behind her interest in country music. I do hope that her songwriting is fueled more by what Dallas calls country than what Hollywood calls country.
