Demi Lovato to perform on MTV Video Music Awards pre-show

Demi Lovato is to perform on the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show, it has been announced.

The X Factor USA judge will play her new single 'Give Your Heart A Break' on the hour-long telecast, which precedes the September 6 awards ceremony.

Lovato said in a statement that she is honoured to join the "incredible musicians" who will take part in the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

"I can't wait to be a part of all the action leading into an incredible night of music and fun," she said.

The singer is also nominated in the 'Best Video with a Message' category for her hit 'Skyscraper'.

One Direction, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean and Rihanna will perform during the actual VMAs ceremony. Pink, Green Day and Alicia Keys are to take to the stage as well.

Andy Samberg, Rashida Jones, Ke$ha, 2 Chainz, Miley Cyrus and Olympic gold medal gymnasts Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, McKayla Ma! roney an d Kyla Ross will be on hand to hand out the trophies.

Kevin Hart hosts the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 6 at 8/7c.
