Demi Lovato is the new ambassador for anti-bullying campaign

X Factor judge and former Disney starlet Demi Lovato is taking on a new role: Ambassador for new Anti-Bullying campaign.

People reports that the 20-year-old actress is standing up against bullying having had a difficult time in school herself. She explains, I had a really tough time when I was in middle school.

Lovato describes the hurtful things kids would do, including writing 'hate petitions' [about me] and send them around to be signed. They'd have CD-bashing parties of my demos. They'd come to my house, stand across the street and yell things. It was a very emotional time for me, and all I wanted to do was get away."

The actress turned judge previously dealt with a serious eating disorder, and states that she sought treatment to help move past her emotional issues. Lovato opened up to British magazine Fabulous about her disorders which led her to drug use and cutting herself. She is now promoting gang up for good to help kids understand the destruction bullying causes on young people.

I heard about the program last year, and thought it was such a great opportunity. They're really trying to put an end to bullying."

Lovato has made the pinky swear which is signified by wearing blue nail polish on her pinky. It's a conversation starter: 'Hey, why is your pinky blue?' 'This is a pinky promise that I'm not going to bully people, that me and my friends are ganging up for good.'"

Secret brand deodorant is also supporting the! campaign, Mean Stinks, and will donate $1 from every purchase of Mean Stinks Clinical Strength to the cause.
